Lack of affiliation has led to students of Narayana Schools in Siliguri appearing in their Central Board of Secondary Examination (CBSE) exams in Raiganj in North Dinajpur, around 158 km away from Siliguri town.

However, guardians said they are “satisfied” as the school at least managed to arrange for the exam centre for their wards appearing in the CBSC final examinations, albeit in the name of another private school in Raiganj.

The town was today abuzz with the 110 class-X students travelling the distance and putting up there for the exam period, even as buses that took the students there protested alleged non-payment of their dues by Narayana Schools.

In Raiganj, students from different CBSE schools like the Sarada Vidya Mandir, Techno India Group, Bethani Mission, Navadya Vidhyalay of Dalkhola and from Narayana Schools in Siliguri wrote their examinations today.

“The school has at least managed the centre for the students this year, but it needs to have affiliation for it to continue further,” Guardians’ Forum president Sandipan Bhattacharya said.

“Managing a school for the centre is not legal, as our students here are appearing in the exams as students of another school in Raiganj,” he added.

“We want the school to get the affiliation soon, and without the affiliation, the school should not take admissions in class IX and XI, as they will have to face the same problems in the future,” Mr Bhattacharya said.

Meanwhile, the Narayana School authorities at the Fulbari branch on the outskirts of Siliguri said that they have stopped taking admissions in class IX and XI owing to the lack of affiliation.

“Last year, we had taken at least three students, but we made a refund and did not take them.

Since then, we have not taken admissions to classes IX and XI as we do not have affiliation,” said the Principal of Narayana Schools, Fulbari, Srinivasan.
