Himachal cold wave intensifies after fresh snowfall

Himachal cold wave conditions have intensified as the higher reaches of the state witnessed a fresh spell of snowfall yet again on Friday. The lower areas of the state, meanwhile, received rains.

This being the third spell of the snow in the month of January, the capital town of Shimla had received 5.6 cm snowfall in the last 24 hours till Friday evening, while other tourist destination Dalhousie received 10.0 cm, Manali 1.0 cm and Kufri 8.0 cm of snowfall.

Kalpa in Kinnaur district received 9.9 cm of snow.

Both Bhunter in Kullu district and Dharamshala in Kangra district received 3.0 mm rains each, Sundernagar 2.0 mm and Chamba 6.0 mm.

As per Met department officials, the rain and snow have brought about dip in the maximum temperatures by 2 to 3 degree Celsius and the temperatures were 6 to 7 degree below normal.

Highest temperature was recorded at Una 19.8 degree Celsius and lowest -4.0 degree Celsius was recorded at Keylong in Lahaul and Spiti district followed by Kalpa -1.7 degree Celsius.

The maximum temperature of Shimla stood at 4.4 degree Celsius, Manali 3.0 degree Celsius.

Dry weather has been predicted by the Met department in most parts of the state for the next two days, however a fresh Western Disturbance is likely to affect western Himalayan region from 29 January.
