Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur on Tuesday, hailed the decision of the Central Government for clearing the ‘Agnipath’ scheme for recruitment of youth in the Armed Forces.

He said that ‘Agniparh’ is a visionary scheme that would provide a unique opportunity to the youth to serve the country and contribute to nation-building.

Himachal Pradesh is known as ‘Veer Bhoomi’ and many sons of the soil were giving their services in Armed Forces, he said, adding that this scheme would further encourage several youths of the state and country to serve in Armed Forces.

About 46 thousand Agniveers would be recruited this year under the scheme, giving a boost to employment opportunities.

It will also enhance the availability of trained personnel to boost national security in times of external threats, internal threats, and natural disasters and make the profile of the Armed Forces more youthful and dynamic, he added.

Thakur said the customised monthly package under the scheme would be Rs. 30 thousand for the first year, Rs. 33 thousand for the second year, Rs. 36500 for the third year, and Rs. 40 thousand for the fourth year.

Besides this, the Seva Nidhi of approximately Rs. 11.71 lakhs would aid the Agniveers to pursue their future dreams without the financial pressure, he said.

The scheme would also provide an opportunity for Agniveers to train in the best institutions and enhance their skills and qualifications.

He said that the scheme provides a holistic approach as it would also ensure adequate re-employment opportunities for those returning to society and would emerge as role models for other youths.
