Assocham hails Himachal’s new sports policy

The Himachal Pradesh State Development council of Assocham today hailed the launch of state’s new sports policy ‘HP Swarnim Jayanti Sports Policy-2021’.

The policy was formally unveiled during a press conference at Dharamshala by the State Sports, Youth Affairs and Forests minister Rakesh Pathania.

Jitender Sodhi, Chairman, Assocham HP State Development Council said the policy is well drafted which will encourage the youth of Himachal towards sports activities and help our state be more sports-centric.

“Job quotas and financial awards for sportspersons will encourage them to get medals in the Olympics. New avenues to create more jobs and opportunities for youth of our state will be created by this policy. Assocham hopes the policy is also executed on the ground and offers all kinds of support to the government in their endeavor towards growth and welfare of the state,” he added.

He congratulated the Himachal government for reviewing the existing policy and formulating a comprehensive policy which was long due.

In new policy, there is an increase in the job quota for sportspersons from 2 to 3 per cent, increase in financial award for players winning gold medals to get Rs 3 crores, silver medals to get Rs 2 crores, bronze medals to get Rs 1 crore in Olympics, Paralympics, and super specialized sports academies with residential facilities at district level.

Sportspersons qualifying and participating in Olympics and Paralympics would also be given a cash award of Rs 15 lakh, he added.
