Seven persons, including the husband of Trinamul Congress panchayat pradhan, involved in yesterday’s clash between the mother wing and the youth wing of Trinamul Congress (TMC) at Basanti were arrested on Friday.

The youth wing put up a road block on Basanti highway with the body of Hasan Laskar, who died after being hit by a bullet yesterday, demanding immediate arrest of the accused leaders and workers of the mother wing who were responsible behind yesterday’s clash. Police recovered the body after giving them assurance to arrest the accused and sent it for postmortem.

The mother wing leaders, however, claimed that the youth TMC workers backed by Aman Laskar, a youth TMC leader and follower of TMC MLA of Canning (East) and district youth TMC president Saokat Molla, had first attacked them with firearms and bombs.

The family of the deceased class-IV student demanded punishment for the ones who had shot dead their son, Riyazul Molla (10). The bereaved family members also appealed to all the groups of TMC to stop such infightings claiming innocent lives.
