SAD alleges deliberate leak of probe report on sacrilege cases

The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Friday alleged the second part of Justice (retired) Ranjit Singh report on sacrilege cases too has been leaked in less than 24 hours of its submission to the government.

In a statement, SAD leader and former minister Daljit Singh Cheema said the leak is evident from the tweet of sacked leader of Opposition Sukhpal Singh Khaira.

“It (leak) smacks of a serious political conspiracy hatched jointly by the Congress, Justice Singh and his close relative Khaira,” he said adding that even first part of the report comprising 195 pages had been leaked and the government had constituted a cabinet sub-committee only on Thursday to probe the leak of part one of the report.

Khaira in his micro blog twitter has urged former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal to come clean on the affidavit filed by former DGP Sumedh Singh Saini with regard to incidents of sacrilege.

“Obviously, Khaira has been provided a copy of the second part of the report too and it’s rightly suspected that he was given an advance copy,” Cheema said.

He said it was shocking that before the cabinet subcommittee started “probe drama”, the second part of the report has been leaked through Khai ra which proves that either government is deliberately trying to draw mileage from the report or Justice Singh himself has divulged the contents of the report to oblige Khaira and give him political leverage.

Justice Ranjit Singh Report along with proposed action taken is to be placed before the ensuing state Assembly session slated from next week but the government has not only thrown the sanctity of the report to the winds but also compromised with the privilege of the house.

“Such reports have to be tabled in the house and any leaks overtly or covertly amounted to gross breach of privilege of the state assembly and those guilty of breach must be penalized”, Cheema added.

Frequent leaking of the report only proves beyond doubt that the present Congress government is totally incompetent to keep anything under the wrap or secret.

Besides, hitting at the dignity and prestige of the House by such leaks, the government has forfeited its right to government as such reports must be guarded at all costs, the SAD leader said.

The SAD has already rejected Justice Ranjit Singh report as “ a report of injustice” which it believed had been prepared at Punjab Congress Bhawan in consultation with Congress bosses.

“With the successive leakage in league with AAP leader Khaira”, Cheema said “The APP too seems to be a party to moderating and vetting the contentious report which is not worth the paper on which it is written and be consigned it to dustbin to which it deserved to be thrown.”
