One person was killed when the tractor-trolley he was driving got hit by Assam-bound Rajdhani Express at an unmanned railway crossing in the district on Tuesday, an official said.
The tractor had crossed the railway track near Vidyapatidham station but the attached trolley was stuck in the track, RPF Assistant Commandant Kumar Surendra Sharma said.
The tractor was hurled several metres away by the impact of the collision, grievously injuring its 55-year-old driver Lakhan Rai who succumbed to injuries at a hospital later, Sharma said.
The trolley had got entwined with the train’s engine and the Rajdhani Express could resume its journey only after the mangled heap of metal was removed, the RPF official said.
Rail traffic was affected on the line for a few hours as local people squatted on the tracks demanding that gates be installed at the unmanned crossing, he said.
