The Punjab government intends to modernise the sports infrastructure throughout the state so as to ensure that Punjab regains its top spot in the sporting annals of the country.
Disclosing this on Sunday, the sports minister RanaGurmit Singh Sodhi said that as part of modernising the sports related infrastructure the revamping and sprucing up of the stadiums havehigh priority in government’s list. Divulging more, the minister said that besides this,several other initiatives are also very much on the agenda of the state government to give much needed boost to the sports sphere in the state.
He said that a comprehensive sports policy is being readied for the creation of sports culture in the state and listed training of the players with the latest state of the art equipment, providing nutritious diet to the players so as to keep their physical and psychological faculties intact.
Sodhi said Maharaja Ranjit Singh Awards to award are being revived in order to reward players winning laurels at the international, national and state level, jobs to the medal winners as well as honouring them with the cash prizes as some of the initiatives being contemplated.
The minister also added that giving boost to the sporting infrastructure in the border areas especially would be the prime focus of the government in order to afford the budding talent from these regions the chance to showcase their skills and come up at the national and international level.
Listing another important aspect, the director sports, Rahul Gupta, said that top notch companies would be involved in the project of refurbishing the sports stadiums and according them new & beautified look.
