PU ranked second in country

The Panjab University (PU) in Chandigarh has been ranked at second spot in the country among the top 1250 Universities globally as per the US News Ranking 2018. However, the Indian Institute of Science in Bengaluru has been ranked first in India.

An official spokesperson said that PU has also been ranked number 79 in Asia. Apart from this, Department of Physics at PU is ranked number one in India and number 187 globally.

It was added that the ranking of PU is way ahead of other Indian Universities, getting 17 per cent more than Aligarh Muslim University, the next ranked university and 40 per cent more than Jawaharlal Nehru University.

“This is because of the all academic output is given weightage. Books and Conferences are counted. The research output of all sorts reported in high quality high impact journals is included,” said the spokesperson.

US News has been ranking US Universities for 30 years. This is its fourth round of ranking global universities. It evaluated 1250 top global universities based on information collected by Clarivate Analytics.

PU Vice Chancellor, Professor Arun Kumar Grover, has congratulated and expressed his satisfaction.

Chairperson, Department of Physics, Professor Navdeep Goyal said that it is a matter of great pride for the University and the department, which has been performing remarkable in different fields of research since its inception.
