Private tuition, conducted by a professor or even his relative, may ruin their career altogether. Professor Sanat Naskar, of Bengali postgraduate department of Calcutta University( CU) whose son conducted private tuitions of university students, has been permanently removed from his post as the head of the department.
Professors of his department objecting to his involvement in the examination process had alerted the higher authorities of the universities as they protested that the HoD’s alleged involvement is encouraging the students to join tuition classes of his son Professors of the department reported that several students are keeping away from classes in the university and yet attending coaching classes and protested that as these tuition classes are being taken by the son of Professor Naskar students are being encouraged.
A fact-finding committee was constituted later on to probe the charges against professor Naskar. During this time, professor Naskar was temporarily suspended as the HoD of the department. The report of the committee was submitted a while back in the Syndicate meeting.
In fact, professor Naskar has been instructed to dissociate himself from the examination process for both undergraduate and postgraduate level for a period of two years. The next senior most professor will be made the HoD of the department.
Talking to the media, Vice-Chancellor, Sonali Chakravorti Banerjee, “The fact finding committee with the Dean of Arts and the Registrar had submitted their findings. “We have asked professor Naskar to step down permanently as head and further he has been asked to dissociate himself from all examination process whether in the undergraduate section or the post graduate section.”
Meanwhile, show-cause letter has been issued to Gaurabh Dutta Mustafi, the accused students who allegedly beat up and thrashed his professor Bhaskar Das. CU Holi celebrations: The holy celebration at Calcutta University College Street campus was not so ‘happy’ this time, as the Calcutta University Students Union( CUSU) consisting of Trinamul Chatra Parisad( TMCP) were abruptly stopped from playing loud music inside the campus. Such decisions of the authorities has left TMCP student leaders very disappointed as they had planted four sound boxes inside the campus.
