Primary school students to get sports training from well known coaches

South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) is mulling plan to engage reputed sports bodies to train primary school students in the games dear to them, said the civic body on Tuesday.
The civic body would consult the Sports Authority of India for the purpose, said Shikha Rai, the leader of House in SDMC and added that the education department decided to prepare its students for the different sports. According to her the age group of 9 to 11 is considered to be most appropriate to train students in one of the sports in the sports of their interest.
“The education department has decided to appoint well known coaches in a few selected sports in consultation with the Sports Authority of India (SAI) to extensively train the interested students. The move is aimed at preparing the students to enable them to compete and excel at national level in future” said Rai.
She said that the coaches would be engaged on contract basis at the earliest in order to catch the young. The department has also decided to provide all necessary sports infrastructure for realistic and competitive training. The coaches would also be directed to inform the students about the minor inputs required to attain supremacy and expertise, she said.
“There will be no dearth of funds for this purpose,” she said. Rai further stated that the department is also keen to appoint yoga trainers in schools as the existing PETs have been concentrating on traditional physical exercises only.
She added “Keeping in view the relevance and importance of yoga at international level it has become imperative to provide yoga training to the students. The department will also appoint yoga teachers on contract basis,” Rai added.
