A group of Dalit students has launched a postcard campaign against imposition of NSA on Chandrashekher, the chief of Bheem Army, who is the main accused in the Saharanpur violence case. Chandrashekher is in custody.

President of Democratic Students Front at CCS University, Sushil Gautam, is heading the ‘postcard campaign’ that started on Friday on the campus with the slogan ‘I stand with Chandrashekher’. Some other organisations also have raised the issue and demanded withdrawal of NSA. Earlier, Chandrashekher was admitted to Meerut’s LLRM Medical College.

Under the campaign, students scribbled their demand on postcards, which will be sent to the President of India, requesting for the release of Chandrasekhar, Gautam said, adding that students in JNU and Delhi University have also assured to extend their support to the campaign and demand for Raavan’s release.

The responsibility to draw support in JNU has been given to Pradeep Narwal who has been associated with Democratic Students Federation there, Gautam said, adding that student leaders in DU are also being contacted to fetch more support.

Charging the police and district administration of Saharanpur with deliberately imposing NSA on him, Gautam said “they don’t want the release of Chandrasekhar from the jail”.

Meanwhile, activists of ‘Bahujan Sashaktikaran Sangh’ also demonstrated outside the DM office on Friday and handed over a memorandum against the imposition of NSA on Bheem Army Chief.

Chandrashekher was arrested in June this year in Saharanpur for his alleged role in spreading violence in the district. The Bheem Army chief was denied permission to hold a panchayat of Dalits after which the violence broke out.

Chandrashekher had been in jail ever since . He was admitted to district hospital of Saharanpur last month after he had a pain in the abdomen. Three days before he was transferred to LLRM Medical College Hospital where the doctors confirmed that he had typhoid and infection in the lever.
