In yet another instance related to post-poll violence in West Bengal since the conclusion of the general elections on Sunday, a BJP member was shot at in the Cooch Behar district of the state on Monday night following clashes between Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers, said the police on Tuesday

“There was a clash on Monday night. One of the BJP workers was shot at but we are yet to receive any formal complaint. Whether it was actually a bullet injury needs to be verified,” an officer of Sitai police station said.

Cooch Behar parliamentary constituency had voted on April 11 in the first phase of the general elections.

On Monday, a day after the Lok Sabha elections concluded, violent clashes broke out in two districts of West Bengal on Monday between the TMC and the BJP workers in Habra’s Kultala area of the Barasat Lok Sabha constituency, police said.

Several persons were injured in the clashes that broke out after a BJP polling agent was allegedly beaten up by unknown persons, say the reports. Many polling agents were beaten up and several houses and vehicles were attacked after voting on Sunday.

Two people were admitted to Sagar Gramin Hospital. “Two injured persons were rescued from the spot and hospitalised. A complaint has been lodged. No one has been arrested and an investigation is on,” a police officer said.

A TMC office was ransacked and 10-12 people were injured in a scuffle between two groups of activists in the Maniktala area under the Kolkata North Lok Sabha constituency.
