The Odisha Private Engineering College Association has requested the state government that after two rounds of OJEE Counselling, all vacant seats be handed over to colleges to enrol students for admission for the year 2018- 19.
The private engineering colleges can fill up seats through counselling at their own level from JEE ( Main) rank holders, other state JEE rank holders, state deemed university rank holders, suggested the OPECA.
The OPECA, in its letter to the state government has cited the High Court order of August 2017 directing the government to come up with a practical workable solution to the long-standing issue of filling vacant seats in self-finance private engineering colleges.
Further as per AICTE Approval Process Hand Book 2018-19, concerned state governments shall decide the modalities for these admissions, noted the OPECA.
In view of the AICTE approval process and the HC order as well as the increasing number of seats remaining vacant, the government needs to consider allowing engineering colleges to undertake their own counselling process to induct students, said the OPECA. The only other alternative is for the government to conduct special OJEE to fill up seats, it said.
