Punjab government is set to roll out the Online Building Plan Approval System (OBPAS) from 15 August.

The local government minister, Navjot Singh Sidhu on Tuesday said the OBPAS would be a purely online platform. Terming it as the revolutionary project with the potential to change both the face and fate of Punjab.

It is a one stop place for all the architects and citizens to submit drawings or documents for the building plan approval and would cater to the 165 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) as well as the 27 Improvement Trusts, the minister said.

Sidhu further said that there would be a five step process with regard to the OBPAS. Listing out the benefits of this unique project, the minister said that with its operationalisation the common people would not have to make the endless rounds of the government offices to get their maps or drawings approved thus saving their precious time and energy.

“The emphasis on the aspect of e-Governance is being laid with a view to modernize the infrastructure in all the ULBs of the state and it is a tool for increasing transparency in the overall functioning of the department,” Sidhu said at Municipal Bhawan while addressing the architects as well as the commissioners of all the Municipal Corporations of Punjab on the occasion of a workshop regarding OBPAS.
