NTPC Talcher holds four-week residential workshop for women

NTPC Talcher Kaniha organised a four-week unique residential workshop “Girls Empowerment Mission (GEM)” under its CSR initiative.

The workshop was to empower girls. 120 students for girls between 10 to 12 years old selected from neighbouring 13 village schools of the power station

Under GEM programme at NTPC Kaniha the participants are given sessions on “digital literacy”. Students were given practical on hand experience on working with computers.

Students were taught about basic computer programmes, MS word, paint, PowerPoint and the internet. Simultaneously they are made aware of going paperless as the need of the hour

The GEM workshop at NTPC Kaniha has come up with innovative initiatives to encourage developing leadership qualities.

A mock election was conducted for the children. Candidates went for an innovative campaign for themselves through the use of slogans and speeches on what they will do if voted to power.

The initiative intended to create awareness on democracratic systems, make them learn how to make leaders accountable.

Candidates participated in a secret ballot for selecting their favourite candidate. The participants are made aware of yoga, its postures benefit to stay healthy improve concentration. Martial arts classes were conducted to impart selfdefence among the GEM participants.

After successful completion of the workshop, participants of the workshop will act as ambassadors of NTPC in sharing their experiences and learning from the workshop to the outside world.

Such workshops will be organised again during winter holidays said NTPC officials.
