Members of the Congress’s student wing NSUI stepped onto the tracks at the Vishwavidyalya Metro Station here on Monday to protest against the hike in fares, thereby disrupting the services for some time.

“The services were disrupted for about 10 minutes only. Nothing major. The case will be dealt with by the Metro Police since it is a law and order issue,” an official of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) told IANS.

The NSUI members were later taken to the Kashmere Gate police station.

Metro fares are scheduled for another hike from Tuesday as earlier conveyed by the DMRC. The hike, as proposed by the Fare Fixation Committee, was supposed to be done in two phases. The fares were revised earlier in May this year.

The Delhi government is against the second hike and is in talks with the DMRC to cancel the move.
