With the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) polls slated for September 27, candidates from different parties have intensified their campaign by going to different campuses, faculies, departments .
Slogans and posters of the candidates have been pasted throughout the roads of the North and South campuses of the university including on E-rickshaws which ferry students from colleges and faculties to the metro stations.
Ideally, for candidates, the campaigning starts at around 8 in the morning and throughout the day, they move around to different colleges and departments asking for votes and promising to rectify the problems of the students.
Moreover, the campaigning is managed by the individual candidates while the student organizations organize several get- together to seek votes in favour of their candidates. One such get together was organized on Monday by the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) of the purvanchali students.
Addressing the gathering, NSUI national president Varun stated, “In the recent Lok Sabha elections, the people of Purvanchal voted for jobs and change, similarly the students from Purvanchal have a huge role to play in the upcoming DUSU elections and will vote for NSUI on the same lines – for jobs, better education, and to reject ABVP”. The event was also attended by NSUI National Incharge Kanhaiya Kumar, AICC Social Media Chairperson Supriya Shrinate, and Former NSUI President Nadeem Javed, urging the students to support the party in the DUSU polls.
Its arch-rival , the Akhil Bharatiya Vidhyarthi Parishad (ABVP), is also campaigning intensively in the campus during the college hours and in hostels too with organizing small gatherings and discussing their poll promises. All its four candidates distributed their manifesto in the colleges and also highlighted their achievements in the outgoing DUSU.
Speaking on the dynamics of the student elections in DU, ABVP Delhi state secretary, Harsh Attri, said that DUSU is a celebration of democracy at the students’ level. He urged the students to participate in the voting process. Furthermore, “If ABVP wins the DUSU election this year, we will work on the infrastructural development of the university by building new hostels, new libraries and other Post Covid issues faced by the students,” he said.
