NDMC transforming capital into city of flowers and joy: LG Saxena

Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena on Saturday said the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) is transforming the capital into “city of flowers and joy’’.

Saxena made the statement after he inaugurated the two-day Flower Festival at Central Park here, and also commended the civic body for its innovative ideas to improvise the beauty of the city.

“During the last two years, the NDMC organised different events of flowers like Tulip Festival, Rose Festival, Flower Festival in which not only Delhi but also adjoining areas people frequently visited flowering sites in the New Delhi area. It is a true recognition of NDMC efforts,” the LG said.

Admiring the Tulip beauty culture in the city introduced by the NDMC in last year, Saxena said, “This year about five lakh tulips are blooming across Delhi. Till date we are importing the Tulips, but NDMC has established a greenhouse to cultivate the hybrid Tulips. In future, we will become self-reliant and can stop the importing of Tulips.”

He also suggested that a competition of flower show be organised among the NDMC, MCD and DDA to create innovative ideas in the field of beautification of the city.

Speaking on the occasion, NDMC chairman Amit Yadav said that under the series of Spring season celebrations, NDMC is organizing the Flower Festival this year after the success and appreciation from the large public of different walks of life for Tulip festival, Rose Festival and Music in the Park.

He said that this Flower Festival has been divided in 18 different sections for flowering display and decoration. The Flower Festival is open for all and entry will be free. The main attraction will be the Group of Flowering potted plants of different seasons like Dahlia, Petunia, Pansy, Salvia, Marry Gold etc.
