Nauni agri varsity wins awards for best farm practices

The 16-members team, including four scientists and 12 students of Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry (UHF), Nauni in Solan district has won 6 awards for best farm practices to increase farmers’ income.

The team of Department of Floriculture and Landscape Architecture recently participated in the National Conference held at Gangtok, Sikkim last month on ‘Floriculture for Rural and Urban Prosperity in the Scenario of Climate Change’.

The conference was jointly organized by state Horticulture and Cash Crops Development Authority, Sikkim, The Indian Society of Ornamental Horticulture, New Delhi and National Research Centre for Orchids, Paykong.

Two members of the team, Dr YC Gupta, Head of Department of Floriculture and Landscape Architecture and Dr SR Dhiman were also invited as lead speakers and co-chaired sessions on post-harvest management and bio-resource conservation respectively.

In total, the department bagged six awards under different theme areas in oral and poster presentations. Dr Gupta also presented two lead papers on doubling farmers’ income and edible flowers.

The team won two awards for the Best Oral poster under different categories, while one was adjudged runner-up. Dr Puja Sharma, Dr Bharti Kashyap, Dr SR Dhiman, Dr YC Gupta, Roshni Agnihotri, SL Chawla, Kavita Negi and Priyanka Sharma, were the winners of the oral posters awards.
