The Winter Football Coaching Camp conducted by the Football Club of Namchi Public School, concluded with a glittering closing ceremony held on the school premises on Tuesday. The ceremony was attended by members of the South District Football Association, coaches and players from different football academies, parents and well wishers.
Former Indian football team captain, Bhaichung Bhutia, was the Chief Guest at the programme. The Principal, Fr George A D’Souza, along with Bursar, Fr Sylvester Crasta and the school staff welcomed the chief guest. In his address, Fr D’Souza thanked Mr Bhutia for attending the event and thanked the parents for their cooperation and support in making Sikkim a soccer power.
Mr Bhutia gave away the certificates to the players and in his address, spoke about the importance of sports among the younger generation. “Sports will help them in self-development, and also give them a platform for a better future,” he said. He also spoke about the United Sikkim Football Club’s initiatives in promoting football in Sikkim, and the all possible help he has been giving to budding footballers.
He also pledged to sponsor the NPS’ football team kit and a young budding footballer from the NPS, Justinmani Lingkhim Rai, by sending him for trials in the upcoming Bhaichung Bhutia Football Academy in Gurgaon. Two exhibition matches were played on the occasion- -one was Under-14 and the other was between Bhaichung’s Eleven and the NPS team.
