A special court here on Tuesday convicted jailed mafia don Mukhtar Ansari in an arms license case.
Special Judge (MP-MLA) Avnish Gautam found Ansari guilty in the case of fraudulently obtaining arms license for a double-barreled gun 37 years ago.
The sentence in this case will be pronounced on Wednesday.
According to the prosecution, on June 10, 1987, Ansari had applied to the District Magistrate for the license of a double barrel cartridge gun. The arms license was obtained by obtaining the recommendation with fake signatures of the District Magistrate and the Superintendent of Police.
After this fraud was exposed, a case was registered by CB-CID on December 4, 1990 in Muhammadabad police station against five named persons, including Ansari, the then deputy collector and others.
After investigation, a charge sheet was sent to the court in 1997 against the then ordnance clerk Gaurishankar Srivastava and Mukhtar Ansari. Due to the death of Gaurishankar Srivastava during the hearing of the case, the case against him was dropped on August 18, 2021.
In this case, statements of 10 witnesses, including state chief secretary Alok Ranjan, former DGP Devraj Nagar were recorded by the prosecution. In the court, ADGC Vinay Kumar Singh appeared on behalf of the prosecution and senior prosecution officer Udayraj Shukla appeared on behalf of CB-CID.
