The two main Congress factions in Madhya Pradesh headed by Digvijay Singh and Jyotiraditya Scindia have been making an earnest effort to sink their differences by visiting each other’s homes.

Digvijay Singh, the newly appointed coordination committee chairman for the Madhya Pradesh Assembly polls which are scheduled at the end of the year, on Monday visited the election campaign committee chief, Jyotiraditya Scindia’s home in New Delhi.

Scindia had visited Singh’s Raghogarh fort on the invitation of his son and MLA Jaivardhan Singh a few days ago. Both these leaders hail from the Gwalior region of the state.

Digvijay’s meeting with Scindia before starting his ‘Congressmen Unity Yatra’ from the Ram Lala temple at Orchha in Tikamgarh district of Bundelkhand on 31 May is being seen as significant.

Several Congress leaders from Gwalior region including state Congress vice-president Ashok Singh and former minister Endal Singh Kansan were present durring the meeting.

The Yatra is being organised in all districts of the state to unite Congress workers and leaders at the district level. Scindia visited Raghogarh during his Parivartan Yatra.

For the Congress the upcoming elections are a do or die battle and the party is leaving no stone unturned to regain power.

Digvijay Singh has announced that he will neither contest the Assembly polls nor be the candidate for the chief ministerial post. He also announced that no member of the coordination committee will be fielded in the upcoming polls.

Nine-term Lok Sabha MP from Chhindwara constituency and newly appointed state Congress chief, Kamal Nath is the choice of both factions and he is working for unity between the two leaders.

Digvijay Singh has been a two-term chief minister and Congress chief of Madhya Pradesh and he has a huge support base in the state.

“Digvijay Singh’s yatra for Congressmen unity sans electoral politics will make the Congress strong in the state and dissolve the rift between party workers,” Congress MLA from Lahar (Bhind) and former minister Govind Singh told The Statesman.

“At present, there are no factions in Congress and we will contest the Assembly elections unitedly under the coordination of Digvijay Singh,” Govind Singh said.
