The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Monday advised those who have not paid property tax so far, to pay it immediately.
“It has been noticed that a large number of property owners, occupiers having properties under jurisdiction of MCD have still not been paid property tax for the current financial year 2023-24 and avail two per cent rebate of house tax online payment up to Rs 10,000. Therefore, those who have not paid property tax so far, are advised to pay tax immediately to avoid last hour rush or inconvenience without waiting for the last date,’ the civic body said.
The MCD said it has also observed that a large number of tax payers have also been found defaulters in payment of tax during previous years and messages are being sent to them from time to time with the request to pay tax.
“In addition, notices are also being sent to them. These taxpayers are also advised to pay dues tax to avoid any penal action under provisions of DMC Act. Prosecution action has also been initiated against such defaulters who have not paid their due property tax,” it said.
The MCD said the taxpayers who have purchased and owned the property but did not register the same on its portal, should register their property by logging on to the website i.e. mcdonline.nic.in.
Informing that it has initiated action against the property tax defaulters who have not paid the tax willfully, the civic body said, “More than 700 properties have been attached or sealed or bank accounts of such defaulters have been frozen or attached.”
“MCD is also in the process of auctioning properties of such defaulters. Therefore, such tax defaulters are advised to pay their dues immediately,” it said.
The civic body said all properties falling under its jurisdiction are required to be geo-tagged and the last date for geo-tagging is 31st March.
“If the taxpayer fails to geo-tag their property, he/she cannot avail the rebate on lump sum payment of tax by 30th June in the next financial year (2024-25). All taxpayers, who have not geo-tagged their properties so far are requested to geo-tag their property by the due date i.e. 31stMarch,” the MCD said.
