information, the Siliguri Metropolitan Police (SMP) arrested Ainul Haque, a resident of Chura Khawa in Chopra, North Dinajpur, and recovered one gun, three rounds of live ammunition and four motorcycles from his possession on 11 March.
The accused was produced in the Jalpaiguri Court, where he was ordered in eight days’ police remand, police said. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Zone-I (East) Gaurav Lal, said here on Tuesday that there have been cases of motorcycle thefts in areas under the Asigarh police station and Bhaktinagar police station in Siliguri, for which raids are being conducted.
“We had got specific information on the accused and accordingly coordinated with the Chopra police and arrested the accused. We recovered four motorcycles from the accused after interrogation.
The accused works as the receiver of theft bikes. Moreover, we recovered one firearm made of brass and wood clamped butt with three rounds of live ammunition.
The accused has been booked under section 25 1 (a) of the Arms Act. The raids will continue as of now,” said Mr Lal. “The accused was produced in the Jalpaiguri court, where the court ordered him in eight days’ police remand,” he added.
Meanwhile, police arrested, Suresh Rai, 32, a resident of Latpanchar in Kurseong and recovered an “imitation pistol” from his possession at Salugara in Siliguri on Monday.
According to the police, the accused used the weapon for extorting people. “Police arrested Rai from Salugara bazaar on Monday. The accused used the imitated pistol (charra bullets) for extortion purposes. He has been booked under section 28 of the Arms Act and has been sent in jail custody for 14 days,” Mr Lal said.
