The BJP on Monday accused chief minister Mamata Banerjee of acting like a fascist leader by trying to crush people’s democratic movements through bandhs.

BJP leader and former TMC MP Mukul Roy said the bandh called by the saffron party has the support of the people, as Bengal is reeling under attacks and violence unleashed by TMC supporters and its goons.

“In a democratic country, Opposition parties must be allowed to organise political movements. But our chief minister has become Hitler and is trying to dominate the Opposition parties like a fascist leader. She could also be compared with fascist leader Stalin as she and her ministers are threatening BJP with dire consequences for giving a bandh call,” Roy said.

BJP state president Dilip Ghosh said people will support the bandh and the government’s attempt to foil the bandh will not be accepted by the people.

Bengal, he said, is close to coming under the President’s Rule as the law and order situation has worsened and everything is beyond the control of the state government. “Panchayat poll was over five months ago but the board formation process is being continued following the vested interest of the ruling party. People don’t’ know when the formation of the board for the panchayat would be completed. Around 90 people died following panchayat poll and other political incidents for past few months. Youth activists of the BJP in Purulia were killed by the TMC backed goons,” he said. Mr Ghosh also said that CBI inquiry is appropriate to find out who killed the two students at Darivit in the Islampur.

The saffron brigade has also decided to send its central leaders to the state on September 26 to make the statewide bandh called by it a grand success. The party called the bandh to protest the death of two students of a local technical college in an alleged police firing at Islampur in North Dinajpur district. A party source said that the BJP’s two state prabharis, Kailash Vijayavargava and Shiv Prakash, and many other central leaders, would come to Kolkata and head to many other districts on September 26.
