In yet another incident of reckless and careless bike-riding amidst an ongoing drive by the Kolkata Police, a rogue bike rider dashed against and injured a traffic police constable and a home-guard in the city today when they tried to stop him.

The incident took place on Saturday afternoon at the crossing of Strand Road and Mahatma Gandhi Road in Burrabazar area. According to police, a bike was speeding along Strand Road from the direction of Babughat and the rider did not stop at the red signal.

When a home-guard tried to stop him for flouting the traffic rules the biker allegedly dashed against him and tried to flee. At that moment a traffic constable rushed to catch him but the bike-rider fled the spot after shoving him away.

Later on, the injured traffic constable informed the traffic control room and other senior officers about the incident before lodging a complaint against the unknown rider. Police arrested the biker after tracking down his identity from his vehicle registration number. The man has been identified as Prabesh Yadav, a resident of Garden Reach.

Despite the awareness campaign and naka checking being conducted by police to curb the menace of helmetless and reckless bike-riding, such incidents are going on unabated. Last week, a constable was dragged on the road by a rogue bike-rider at Beckbagan.
