The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has predicted the possibility of rain, gusty winds and thundershower over West Bengal and issued a warning for the same. The forecast was for Tuesday and Wednesday.
With the summer approaching, the frequency of nor’westers is likely to be high in the upcoming month, according to weather officials.
“There is a strong likelihood of a thunder squall tomorrow and on Wednesday, as well. Significant heat for the last three days has resulted in a wind-discontinuity, which in turn, has led to cloud formation over Jharkhand and Odisha. This formation is expected to move towards Bengal by tomorrow (Tuesday),” RMC director GK Das explained on Monday.
The sky has remained mostly clear since Friday, which has led to cool mornings and sultry afternoons. The thunder squall warning has been issued over all the districts of South and North Bengal and even over Sikkim, Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha.
Friday’s nor’wester resulted in the death of three people in the state, including two jawans. A number of trees were uprooted as well.
