A gang of miscreants kidnapped and killed a 20 year old boy after they did not received Rs 30 lakh as ransom from his family members, sending shockwave across the state of Punjab on Saturday.
According to the Muktsar Police, who have been investigating the case, Harmandeep of Kotbhai in Gidderbaha (Muktsar), who was kidnapped on 25 November and murdered by the kidnappers when they did not received the ransom they demand.
The police claimed to have solve the case as they arrested 5 persons in this connection.
Harmandeep Singh’s family members received some phone calls and two letters from kidnappers to pay the money or face to save him from the jaws of death. They apprised the local police station of the entire incident on the same day.
The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) came down heavily on the State Government alleging utter lawlessness in the state where common people lack safety and security.
SAD president, Sukhbir Singh Badal, appealed to the people to remain united above party lines to force the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government to take exemplary action against the gangsters, who had destroyed the peace of Punjab.
The SAD chief said, “the law and order situation has gone from bad to worse where the common people are not safe at all and they are forced to pay ransom,” he said.
He added that Harmandeep’s parents owned only 7 acres of land and they were in no position to pay the Rs 30 lakh ransom demanded by his kidnappers.
Badal said no one was safe in Punjab and no investment was coming into the state and that even the industrialists and traders in state were contemplating to free from the state.
The SAD chief held Chief Minister, Bhagwant Mann solely responsible for the situation as he holds the home portfolio.
Badal said Mann has no moral authority to remain in office. “The CM has failed to take action against the gangsters, who are now calling the shots in the state. Even the state police is failing to perform its duties under Mr Bhagwant Mann’s leadership”, he added.
