Khattar launches ‘Durga Shakti App’ for women in distress

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Thursday launched android based ‘Durga Shakti App’ of Haryana Police which will enable women to seek immediate help of police through Women Helpline Number 1091 in case of emergency.

The mobile app was launched with the sole objective to provide a safety tool in the easiest manner to the women and girls during ‘Ek Aur Sudhar Programme’ organised at Indradhanush Auditorium in Panchkula.

The Additional Director General of Police, (Operations), AS Chawla said that after downloading the App, any women or girl who is in distress could send information along with GPS (global positioning system) location at Women Help Line number of their district through Whatsapp just by pressing a red button appeared on the App.

It is mandatory to register once on the mobile App. The victim does not need to speak, once it presses the red button, she can send an alter about her GPS location, blood group and other details in form of Whatsapp message to Women Helpline number. The victim can also speak to the operator at the helpline number.

Describing the App a better communication tool between victim and Police, Chawla said that PCR vehicle could make use of GPS location received on Whatsapp to ascertain the victim’s location.

Police could also send messages and tips about woman safety and security to the users of the App. In case a woman or girl lends in an emergent situation outside the state, she can inform the Haryana Police through the Durga Shakti App.

He said the aim is to reduce the response time of the police to provide help to those women or girls who are in distress.

This app is currently available on Android platform. This facility would be extended to other operating systems as well in due course, Chawla added.
