Makkal Needhi Maiam chief Kamal Haasan left for Tiruchirappalli from Chennai on Tuesday in a train bound for the central district in Tamil Nadu.

Haasan, who launched his political party on 21 February in Madurai, will be attending a gathering at Trichy on 4 April in which he aims to urge the people to join his political party.

The actor-turned-politician has reportedly opted for the train journey to connect with the masses along the way. He is expected to meet supporters at Tambaram, Chengalpattu, Virudhachalam and Tiruchy – some of the stations along the route.

Haasan will be addressing the political rally at Ponmalai G Corner ground in the evening. The party workers expect a turnout of around two lakh people.

The 63-year-old actor has been touring parts of the state in order to connect with the masses and understand their problems. He has also been speaking on issues pertaining to the state including the Cauvery issue.

Haasan has been accusing the AIADMK-led state government of failing to make the Centre adhere to the Supreme Court order on the formation of the Cauvery Management Board (CMB).

“I can only say what we require: the simple basic requirement. Not just the farmers, the people require water too,” he said on 29 March when asked to comment on the Centre’s failure in not forming the CMB.
