In demand of a corrected and transparent result publication, the University of Gour Banga (UGB) this morning witnessed yet another student agitation. This time, it was the student organization of the ruling party in the state, Trinamul Chhatra Parishad, the members of which served a memo to the newly appointed Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Dr Swagata Sen, in this regard.
It is alleged by the agitators that even after publication of an erroneous result almost two months back on 28 November, 2017 no further refreshed result was published yet. The agitating students also demanded strict actions against the ones behind such results.
A huge number of students from the districts namely Malda, North and South Dinajpur faced troubles as their results initiated debates at several concerned places. Dr Sen immediately after assuming charge of the V-C constituted an enquiry committee in the matter and also urged for a high level enquiry to the state government.
The district president of TMCP, Prasun Roy, said, “Future of students is in danger but on Tuesday the V-C said that the corrected results would be published within ten days and dissatisfied students might also apply for a review. He also told us that no grace marks would be awarded, the tradition of which had been followed in the university previously.”
It is to be noted here that an allegation of sabotage against the private enterprise in charge of printing the mark sheets was aired just after publishing the results containing huge mistakes. Tension raised regarding the agency’s relation with the powerful faction in the university, a huge amount of unpaid bills was held responsible for the alleged sabotage by the concerned persons in UGB.
A hint of justifiability of such issues was also found in the internal enquiry, according to sources. Dr Sen, however, said, “We are trying to publish results within a week.”
