IndiGo plans flights to three new NE destinations

Buoyed by rising number of air passengers from Kolkata to North East during summer, IndiGo, a low cost airline operator has decided to increase flight operation from NSCBI airport to three new north-east destinations.

The airline operator will begin flight operation from Kolkata airport to Aizwal, Silchar and Jorhat within next three months. Senior IndiGo officials recently visited Izwal, Silchar and Jorhat airports to review flight operation and prepared a feasibility report on flight operation.

Airbus 320 likely to be operated on the route and plans are also afoot to operate ATR, a seventy-two -seaters small aircraft, a senior IndiGo official said.
Airbus 320 has excellent configuration, 16 seats in Business class and 120 seats in Economy class. Air fare for a passenger will be around Rs 3,500 from Kolkata airport to any one of the new route.

IndiGo has already placed order for bringing small aircraft from ATR, a Franco-Italian aircraft manufacturer company. The small aircraft will be brought complying the rules and guidelines of Directorate General of Civil Aviation and complying other safety measures.

Currently, IndiGo operates flights on many north East destinations, including Guwahati, Agartala, Dimapur, Imphal and Shillong.

Last year, during summer there was heavy rush of air passengers from NSCBI airport to various North East destination, IndiGo officials said. Now IndiGo operates altogether eight nine flights from NSCBI airport to various destinations.

Last year national carrier Air India had increased flight operation from Kolkata to various north-east destination as a part of regional connectivity scheme.
