All hopes not lost, says Gurung after SC verdict

Bimal Gurung

A day after the Supreme Court dismissed his petition seeking protection from arrest, absconding Gorkha Jan Mukti Morcha (GJMM) leader Bimal Gurung today urged the Hill people not to lose hope and that there were other legal options.

In a video clip he released from an undisclosed location, he also said that the Centre must now initiate tripartite talks as soon as possible for a political solution to problem in the Hills.

It may be mentioned here that the police have slapped several court cases on the Hill leader related to violence that occurred during the Gorkhaland agitation last year.

In the video clip sent in their social media group, Mr Gurung said, “The Supreme Court verdict that came yesterday might have made the people feel discouraged and sad, but I want to appeal to you all that you should not feel sad as I respect the verdict and welcome it.That was not the only door that we had. There are other legal doors also from where we can work. The people should not lose hope as 80-90 percent Hill people are with us.”

The Morcha leader also said that only 5 percent people were “supporting the other camp due to fear.”
