Haryana Assembly pays tributes to Vajpayee, others

On the first day of the Haryana Assembly session on Friday, obituary resolutions were passed to pay rich tributes to prominent personalities, including former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who have expired between the period from the end of the previous session and the beginning of the current session.

Paying tributes to Bharat Ratna, Vajpayee, cutting across party lines leaders of all parties described him as a great statesman and said his death was a great loss to the country. Leader of the House and Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar paid tributes and read out the obituary resolutions.

Those who were paid homage in the House included former Prime Minister and Bharat Ratna, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Governor of Chhattisgarh, Balramji Dass Tandon, former Speaker of Lok Sabha Mr Somnath Chatterjee, former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, M. Karunanidhi, former Member of Parliament, Ramchandra Bainda, senior Journalist and former Member of Rajya Sabha, Kuldip Nayyar.

The members of House also observed a two minute silence to pay homage to the departed souls. Speaker Haryana Assembly, Kanwar Pal also read out the obituary resolutions and paid tribute to the departed souls.

Leader of Opposition Abhay Singh Chautala, Leader of Congress Legislative Party (CLP) Kiran Choudhry, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ram Bilas Sharma and former Chief Minister and MLA Bhupinder Singh Hooda also read obituary resolutions on behalf of their parties.
