With the arrest of three members of ‘Band Baaja Baarat’ gang, the Crime Branch of Delhi Police has busted a desperate gang of gate crashers, who used to come from Madhya Pradesh to Delhi to commit theft at various wedding venues in the National Capital.

It was revealed that the gang members hire children between 9 to 15 years of age to commit theft by luring their parents for Rs. 10 to 12 lakh a year.

The police have succeeded in apprehending three members of the gang including a juvenile. The two accused, other than juvenile, have been identified as Sonu (24) and Kishan (22), both natives of Rajgarh, MP. Stolen cash of Rs. 63,500, one gold chain, one bag and one car used in the commission of crime have been recovered.

Special Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravindra Singh Yadav said that a number of incidents of theft of shagun, jewelleries and cash at wedding venues were reported. Keeping in view the seriousness of the incidents, a team composed of Sub-Inspector Ashok Kumar, Vijay Kumar, Head Constable Praveen and others under the leadership of Inspector Daleep Kumar was constituted by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Rajesh Deo.

The team started analysing all the available video footage of the wedding ceremonies and deployed informers at various prominent Banquet Halls and Farmhouses, where wedding ceremonies are held.

On analysing the CCTV footage, three suspects including one juvenile were identified. The video footage revealed that the well dressed suspects before committing theft spent considerable time at the venues, making themselves comfortable and familiar with the guests. They never appear to be in a hurry. They had their dinner there and patiently waited for the opportune time to strike.

Eventually, on a tip-off, the police team conducted a raid successfully arrested two accused persons and apprehended one juvenile, while they were trying to leave Delhi after committing theft.
