Four killed in Uttarakhand accident

Four tourists to Uttarakhand were killed and one woman was critically injured when their car fell into a canal in Nainital, police said on Thursday. Only one survived the accident.

There were six persons in the car. Two of the deceased are from Gujarat and were on a holiday to the hill state, a police officer said.

The incident occurred late on Wednesday when the driver of the Ertiga car lost control and the vehicle plunged into the irrigation canal near the Balu Sundari temple in Ramnagar area, a police officer told IANS.

Relatives of the deceased were in another car which was tailing the Ertiga.

They raised an alarm after which people from the area rushed to the rescue of those stuck inside the car. One person was pulled out safely.

The deceased have been identified as Kishnu Sariya, Shanti Swaroop (both from Gujarat) and Tej Prakash Arora and Rashmi Arora (both from Kashipur).

Chanchal Madan was critically injured and was in the ICU.
