Elections for the four Lok Sabha (LS) seats and six Assembly constituencies will be held on June 1 in Himachal Pradesh.

Speaking to media persons here on Saturday, Himachal Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Maneesh Garg said the LS elections in the state will be held in a single phase.

The four LS constituencies are Kangra, Mandi, Hamirpur, and Shimla.

According to the schedule after the notification on May 7, the last date for nominations will be May 14, scrutiny May 15, and withdrawal May 17.

Polling will be held on June 1 and counting will take place on June 4. The entire polling process will be completed by June 6, he added.

The by-election in the six Assembly Constituencies (ACs) schedule will also be held along with the parliamentary elections, Garg said.

The ACs include Dharamshala, Sujanpur, Barsar, Lahaul-Spiti Gagret, and Kutlehar Assembly constituencies.

“Our objective is to conduct zero-error elections, free from inducement, violence, and campaign clutter. Besides, we aim for free and fair elections with enhanced participation from all sections of society, he said.

In the four parliamentary constituencies, 7,990 polling stations have been notified after discussions with the political parties.

As of today, the continuous updating of electoral rolls is in process. The total number of voters stands at 56,38,422, including 65,682 service voters.

The PWD voters are 56,320, comprising one per cent, while there are 60,995 voters aged 85 years and above, he said, adding that first-time voters between the age group of 18 to 19 years comprise 1,38,918, which accounts for 2.5 per cent of the electorate.

As far as other young voters in the age group of 20 to 29 years are concerned, there are 10,40,756 voters, which comprise around 18 per cent of the total electors.

The six assembly constituencies, where the by-elections are scheduled to be held, had fallen vacant after the disqualification of the Congress MLAs who had cross-voted during the election for the Rajya Sabha member on 27 February.

Disgruntled with the functioning of Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, they had challenged his leadership.

The MLAs include Rajinder Rana, Sudhir Sharma, Ravi Thakur, Devinder Kumar Bhutto, Chaitanya Sharma, and Inder Dutt Lakhanpal.
