Doctor arrested for setting more than 10 cars on fire in Karnataka

In Karnataka, the residents of Gulbarga and Belgaum began to live in shock and fear as cars were being set on fire in the middle of the night.

Belagavi police arrested an assistant professor as it is being suspected that he is the one who set ablaze the cars.

Ameet Gaikwad, 37, who has a post-graduate degree in medicine, is an assistant professor in the Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences. He hails from Kalaburagi and since last 10 years he has been living in Belagavi.

Dr. Gaikwad was caught red handed as he is known to have been trying to torch another car. A security guard caught him at a residential complex in Visvesvaraya Nagar, according to media reports.

Reportedly, the police recovered camphor, engine oil, old rags, matchboxes, a lighter and knives from Gaikwad.

If the media reports are to be believed, he set nine cars on fire on January 13, 14 and 15 in Kalaburagi, while seven were set ablaz on January 17 in Jadhav Nagar in Belagavi.

Most of the cars that he set on fire belonged to other doctors, reported the Indian Express. The report further added Dr Gaikwad didn’t reveal anything while talking to the police.
