Getting a favorable medico legal report from a Punjab government hospital doctor costs just Rs 10,000.

This at least was the case at Civil Hospital in Ferozepur city whereas ward attendant was doubling as middleman for a doctor who allegedly demanded Rs 10 thousand for a favorable medico legal report.

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has registered a bribery case against medical officer Dr Varun Kumar and ward attendant Jagsir Singh, both posted at Civil Hospital, Ferozepur city in the above case.

The complainant Karaj Singh, resident of Rukna Begu village in Ferozepur district had approached the VB and alleged that the ward attendant was demanding Rs 10 thousand on behalf of Dr Kumar for issuing a favorable medico-legal report. The ward attendant had had already fixed a deal with the medical officer for sharing the bribe in this case, an official spokesperson said.

After verifying his information, the VB team laid a trap and nabbed the ward attendant on the spot while accepting bribe of Rs 10 thousand from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.

But Singh ran away from the spot while he was being taken to hospital ward to hand over the bribed amount to Dr Kumar, the spokesperson said adding that two cases under Prevention of Corruption Act have been registered against the duo at VB police station Ferozepur.

In another case, the VB nabbed an assistant lineman of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL), Amrik Singh – who is posted at PSPCL office Saraibanjara– red handed while demanding Rs 7000 to replace an electricity pole damaged due to powerful wind on his land.
