Dilip Ghosh condemns TMC attack on party activist

The alleged assault on a woman party activist, Nilima Dey Sarkar, in North 24-Parganas by ruling Trinamul Congress activists during the 26 September shutdown called by the saffron party was condemend by state BJP president Dilip Ghosh on Monday.

“The law and order situation in the state has completely broken down as the police are sitting idle and are not keen in taking action as the goons are from the Trinamul,” Mr Ghosh said.

The BJP activist told reporters that she was assaulted twice by Trinamul supporters at Barasat rail crossing. “I along with some of other BJP activists were on the road with party flags when all of a sudden some of the Trinamul supporters along with some goons started abusing us” she said. “When we protested they started beating us and I was kicked and punched by them,” she alleged.

“While returning from the police station after lodging a complaint, I was again attacked by the goons, but the police are yet to arrest the culprits,” she alleged.

“I have decided to move court against the incident seeking justice,” she said.

When contacted, Trinamul Congress North 24-Parganas district president and minister Jyotipriyo Mullick declined to comment on the matter. saying he is not “aware of any such incident”. “But I will still enquire about the incident and then only I can comment on it,” he said.

The bandh was called by the BJP to protest the killing of two students in a clash at Islampur area of North Dinajpur district.
