A thirty-nine-year-old vegetable store owner has been arrested by the Delhi Police on the charge of sexual assault on a minor girl aged 14 years, a police official said on Thursday.

Initially, the girl was allegedly assaulted by the accused in 2021. The survivor has informed her parents about her ordeal only now. After receiving a complaint on Tuesday, the police registered a case in the matter under section 376 IPC and 06 POCSO Act.

According to the police, the accused is a neighbour of the survivor.

The case was pursued by the police after the complainants approached the Anand Parbat Police Station in this matter.

Earlier in the first week of the month, an 18-year-old woman from Delhi’s Madangir was drugged and gang-raped by two men belonging to Meerut, whom she had met through social media.

The incident took place in Delhi’s Malviya Nagar after the woman and the men had a meal at Malviya Nagar following which she felt dizzy, and she was sexually assaulted.
