Under overcast skies, Delhi temp slips 2 points below normal

With an overcast sky during the day, the maximum temperature in Delhi settled at 20.3 degrees Celsius, two notches below the season’s average.

The national capital woke up to light rain and shallow fog on Sunday with the minimum temperature recorded at 11.9 degrees Celsius, three points above the season’s average.

According to the weatherman, rainfall recorded during the past 24 hours was 3 mm while the Met Department forecasted thunderstorms for the day.

Southeasterly winds swept through the city at speeds of 5.6 km/hr in the evening, the weather agency said.

For Monday, the weatherman has forecast dense fog in the morning hours and a partly cloudy sky with maximum and minimum temperatures to be around 22 and 9 degrees Celsius, the weather agency official added.

Delhi’s air quality, which was in the moderate category on Saturday, slipped into the ‘poor’ zone on Sunday after a spike of 74 points in the quality index.

According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the average Air Quality Index (AQI) of the city on Sunday measured 274.

There is a slim possibility of the AQI improving to moderate category on Monday, as per the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM).

As per the IITM, “The air quality is likely to be in the Moderate category on 05.02.2024 and Poor category from 06.02.2024 to 07.02.2024. The outlook for subsequent 6 Days: The air quality is likely to remain in the Poor category.”
