Delhi Police arrested two men for kidnapping a teenager from here for a ransom of Rs one crore, a police officer said on Wednesday. The victim was rescued.
One of the kidnappers claimed that a family member was involved in the crime as well.
Both men have been employed with the boy’s father, a businessman, the officer said.
The abduction was executed on Monday evening when the victim, 12, a resident of Kardampuri in West Jyoti Nagar, was returning home after tuition.
The father filed a police complaint on Tuesday after getting the ransom call from the abductors, the police officer said.
“The accused identified as Tarif, works in his factory, while his accomplice, Danish is a former employee and presently works in a factory in Vishwas Nagar.
“The two were arrested from their hideout with the help of surveillance following which the victim was safely released,” Joint Commissioner of Police Ravinder Yadav said.
“During the investigation, it was found that both Tarif and Danish approached the victim while he was on his way home. They asked him the address and way to his uncle’s house and later abducted him,” Yadav said.
“Tarif told police a cousin of the victim was also involved in the kidnapping and was the mastermind of the abduction,” Yadav said.
