The process to redevelop New Delhi Railway Station – one of the busiest railway stations in the country – into a state-of-the-art facility is picking up momentum.

The first pre-bid conference in connection with the re-development of New Delhi and Ahmedabad railway stations and the construction of associated infrastructure on an engineering procurement and construction (EPC) basis was held on November 7, 2022 and November 9, 2022 respectively.

The meetings were held online and offline and were well attended by prospective bidders along with vendors and officials of Rail Development Authority (RLDA).

Tata Projects, Shapoorji & Pallonji and L&T among many other companies participated in the earlier meetings. Besides Tata, S&T and L&T, three other companies – ITD, NCC Ltd, and GMR Group have also shown their interest in the station redevelopment project.

Adani Reality and Archon Infra are among six other companies that have participated in the pre-bid meeting for the redevelopment of Ahmedabad station.

A twin dome-shaped facade will come up at New Delhi station, replacing the existing structure. The station redevelopment programme is a flagship programme of the Government of India. RLDA, a statutory authority under the Ministry of Railways, has been entrusted with the task of redevelopment of many iconic stations.

The station redevelopment is intrinsically linked to urban rejuvenation. The redevelopment of these stations will offer world-class amenities to passengers and enhance their travel experience. It will also lead to a multiplier effect on the local economy, boosting retail, real estate and tourism, and generating employment opportunities.
