One person was arrested and 18 others were held by Delhi Police while opposing the Agnipath defence recruitment plan.
M Harsh Wardhan, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka), said 50-60 juvenile lads came from the Khaira Mode side towards the Dhansa bus station opposite the MCD office gate at around 10.45 a.m. on Friday.
They were yelling slogans calling for the scheme to be scrapped.
The demonstrators were relegated to one side of the road so that traffic flow could be maintained. They were also told to disperse in a calm manner.
“Later one person namely Surender Sharma alias Fauji joined the protest and started to instigate the protesters by inflammatory speech,” the DCP said, adding the said man also got into a scuffle with police personnel.
To ensure law and order, the demonstrators were dispersed right away.
According to the official, eighteen active protestors were seized on the spot and booked under preventive action.
Surender Sharma was arrested after the police filed an FIR against him under sections 186 (Obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions A), 353 (Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) and 332 (Voluntarily causing harm to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) of the Indian Penal Code.
