Octogenarian dead, young woman critically injured after jumping off from building to escape fire

In a tragic incident in Delhi’s Dwarka Sub-city on Wednesday, an octogenarian lost her life, while a 30-year-old woman got injured after jumping off from the fourth floor of a residential building after a fire broke out in their apartments.

The deceased has been identified as 83-year-old Jasuli Devi.

The two women were rushed to the nearby Ayushman hospital, where the injured woman is said to be in a critical condition.

According to the Fire department, a fire call was received at around 1223 hrs with regard to the blaze that broke out in two flats in a residential society in Dwarka’s Sector 10.

Six fire tenders were pressed into action. The two women were rushed to the hospital, where the elderly was declared brought dead.

Pacific Apartments, where the tragedy took place consisted of stilt parking plus six floors, the fire official said.

The fire call was received at 1223 hrs and the blaze was brought under control by 1305 hrs, the fire department added.

It is being said that due to panic or not being able to find an escape from the fire, the women who had taken shelter in the balcony, later jumped in a bid to save their lives from the fourth floor.

The spot was being inspected by the police while further inquiry to ascertain the cause will also take place.

On Monday, another fire incident took place in Delhi’s Shahbad Dairy area in Rohini where several shanties were gutted by the blaze, however there were no reports of any casualty in the incident.
