No respite for Delhi from morning chill at minimum temp at 4.7 °C

Another chilly morning in Delhi with minimum temperature recorded at 4.7 degrees Celsius. The day being 75th Republic Day residents had no option but to brave the morning chill to catch up with the R-Day celebrations.

The mercury reading recorded during the early hours on Friday pegged at 4 points below the season’s normal, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

A thick layer of dense fog covered several areas across the city in the early hours before clearing after 9 am. As the day progressed, the sun did provide some relief from the biting cold with the maximum temperature rising to 20.6 degrees Celsius, a notch below season’s average.

The sky was partly cloudy during the day while the mercury further dipped towards evening.

The icy breeze made people feel the chill, and according to the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) the wind speed is likely to increase a little on Saturday.

“The predominant surface wind is likely to be coming from Northwest/West directions in Delhi with wind speed 04-12 kmph, mainly clear sky and moderate fog in the morning on 27.01.2024,” the IITM said.

For Saturday, the weather agency has forecast moderate fog in the early morning hours, while minimum temperature is likely to hover around 5 degrees Celsius.

The maximum temperature on Saturday is expected to settle at around 20 degrees Celsius, the weatherman said.

The city’s air quality, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), stepped into the severe zone on Friday with an AQI value of 409.
