MCD polls: Delhi Metro services to commence at 4 am on Sunday

Delhi Metro train services on all lines will commence from 4 in the morning from all terminals on the day of Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) polls on December 4, a DMRC spokesperson said on Friday.

“On the day of Municipal Corporation of Delhi elections on December 4 (Sunday), the Delhi Metro train services on all lines will start from 4 am from all terminal stations.  The trains will run with a frequency of 30 minutes on all the lines till 6 am.  After 6 am, Metro trains will run as per the normal Sunday timetable throughout the day,” the spokesperson said.

The elections for the 250-ward Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) will hold on 4 December while the counting of votes will be done on December 7.

Ahead of the MCD elections, the sale of alcohol in the National Capital will be restricted for three days, marked ‘dry days’ from Friday.

The ban will be imposed from 5.30 in the evening, as soon as the civic polls campaign ends till the day of voting. Following this, the ban will be imposed again on December 7, when the counting will take place.

“On account of the MCD polls in the NCT of Delhi, from 17:30 Hours of December 2 to December 4 upto 17:30 Hours and from 00:00 Hours to 24:00 Hours on December 7 shall be observed as dry days,” an official statement from the Excise Department reads.

This year, the Central government unified the three corporations – East Delhi Municipal Corporation, South Delhi Municipal Corporation and North Delhi Municipal Corporation – into one MCD. After a Home Ministry notification, the total number of MCD wards in Delhi has been reduced to 250 from earlier 272. As many as 42 wards are in the reserved category.
