MCD meet on revised budget estimates disrupted by ruckus

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) House once again witnessed a ruckus during a special meeting called on Monday to discuss revised budget estimates.

Mayor Shelly Oberoi urged everyone to remain calm and not disrupt the proceedings of the house, saying a lot of pending work had to be done even as uproarious scenes continued in the house. The meeting will continue till February 8, when the leader of the house will finally present the budget after the amendments are made.

During the meeting, while BJP councilors kept raising the issue of the prolonged absence of the standing committee in the house, first-time councilors stuck to the issues pertaining to the areas which included sterilisation of dogs, maintenance of roads, and municipal parks among others.

Earlier too, the house witnessed disruptions over the demand of the Opposition members for the formation of a standing committee.

The BJP councilors alleged that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was trying to skip the election of the committee for fear of losing the majority.

Meanwhile, the Delhi mayor filed a petition in the Supreme Court requesting for authority to the MCD to carry on with the work till the standing committee is formed.

Earlier in December last year, the MCD commissioner had presented the budget made by the officials in the house for its approval.
